Country Furniture for Your Porch

Old-fashioned easy living

Nothing quite as inviting as country furniture on a wonderful front porch like the picture you see here. Dave and I are kind of partial to this style of living.

If country style furniture makes you think of knotty pine and table legs made from branches you'll be surprised to know that country extends from the simple to very elaborate in design.

Many styles of country

Country style furniture comes in many styles - so here are some of the most popular - just to get your creative juices flowing.

We don't recommend you put fine antiques on your porch but you can find replicas that would be ideal to create a warm country look. And remember, don't forget timeless porch rockers and porch swings.

    French provencial

  • French Provincial - Characterized by flowing designs and carvings and sometimes mixed with wrought iron. Ash, walnut, fruit woods, and chestnut are the preferred woods.

  • But French Country doesn't necessarily mean pieces are all wood. The chair at right is a typical French Provencial piece that is handforged wrought iron. (photo FrenchHeritage.com)

  • English Country - These pieces are functional rather than ornate and are made from oak, ash, and elm along with walnut and mahogany. Like French country, English country is also available in metals. (photos englishgardenfurniture.com &andrewcrace.com)

    American country furniture
  • American Country - Most know this type furniture really well. Made primarily from oak, pine, and maple, these pieces were meant to be on a porch.

The classic "porch rocking chair" is a most essential piece. A country porch just isn't the same with one - or several actually!

We are very pleased to showcase Bill Lindau's handcrafted beauties.

  • Pennsylvania Dutch
  • Pennsylvania Dutch - Plain but built to last, decorations might be called a "partial" folk-art. The lily, the heart, the tulip, and the turtle-dove are among the early Pennsylvania Dutch decorations. They expressed all the hopes and joys of an intensely religious people.

  • Shaker - Elegant in simplicity, functional and durable, Shaker furniture is great for the front porch.
