Mount Vernon VAGeorge Washington Home and Covered Back Porch Dave and I had the pleasure of visiting President George Washington's wonderful porch on Memorial Day with our family. What is so unique about his porch is the spectacular view of the Potomac River. It's like a picture book. President Washington and Martha's home has one of the most famous covered back porches in history. Dave and I often think about George and Martha sitting on their back porch overlooking the Potomac. We wonder what their conversations would have been about.

There's something humbling about standing on the same soil as George and Martha Washington.
Seeing their spacious back porch and overlooking the Potomac is worth the trip. I loved the beautiful grounds - simple loveliness.
We went on Memorial Day. They were open later in the evening and had special activities, music and refreshments. It was kind of magical! If you plan to visit the Mount Vernon estate more than once per year, you might want to consider an annual membership. Thanks to our son, Tom, who took some of these fantastic pictures.
