Flory's Rebuild Porch Project

It's not every day you get to see a "rebuild porch" project like Flory's. Flory's goal was to create a porch that would not only last a long time but be just the way she envisioned it.

Flory writes about her parent's porch: "It looked as good as when we bought it in 1969. That's how a covered porch should look like. Nothing fake about it, none of those composite or plastic wood material. It's the real McCoy. That's what I want in my porch. I am building it for 150 years, not 15 years, like a deck."

Flory's After Rebuild Porch Remodel

Flory's quest for her perfect porch was definitely a journey, but she persevered and her "rebuild porch" project was a true success! But it wasn't without issues:

Flory's After Rebuild Porch Remodel First of all, there was a problem with the concrete foundation.

The builders chipped a big chunk of the gazebo corner. along with holes after they removed the board and another big chunk on the side of the crawlspace.

Flory's After Rebuild Porch Remodel Flory wanted a steep porch roof because of ice and snow but that's not how the architect drew it and the builder was going to install a flat roof.

It took a change order to resolve the issue.

Steps Redone The initial porch concrete steps were built incorrectly.

Besides being the wrong size, Flory wanted them to add white river rocks on top of the steps.

Instead, they added river rocks on all sides of the steps.

Out go the old steps and in come the new to Flory's specifications! (The contractor fired the concrete folks!)

Steps Redone Railings issues as well. Flory didn't get exactly the spacing she wanted but the wrought iron panels look fantastic!

Our favorite feature of course is Flory's single seater porch swing!

It was quite the porch project but because of Flory's perseverance, she now has a wonderful front porch.
