Sunbrella Awnings

Fabric Awnings For Your Front Porch

You just can't go wrong using Sunbrella awnings to create both protection from the elements and help cool your home in summer.

No other outdoor fabric material is more popular nor have the variety of colors and textures from which to choose become so available. We found the cost is less than or equal to most vinyl or plastic awnings.

Porch awnings are ideal not only for protecting you from harmful rays, but also protecting your outdoor furniture from fading so quickly. You can also find awnings to fit over almost any sized doors.

Recent studies indicate porch awnings reduce heat by almost 77 percent. In addition, during winter months, retractable awnings allow the sun's natural rays to penetrate your home's windows to help reduce heating bills.

They come in standard sizes to fit a wide variety of doors and applications.

Sunbrella ® awnings turn those exposed porch areas into livable outdoor spaces. These awning fabrics have an acrylic undercoating that does not trap heat but rather allows for much cooler seating.

Specific Sunbrella Awnings Information

Awning Installation

Awning installation is fairly straightforward. If mounting under the eaves of your home, brackets will installed to tie directly to existing wall studs or headers.

If mounting to your roof, brackets will be affixed to your roof rafters.

Retractable Awning Supports

Sometimes called lateral-arm supports, retractable awnings are designed as "self-supporting" and rely on both spring-load extensions and a very secure mounting system.

Wind Resistance

Sunbrella Porch awnings Any canopy, because of their design, is susceptible to wind. Light winds (5 mph or less) should not be an issue; however, gusting winds can reach high speeds quickly and can cause damage.

If you live in an area that has frequent high winds, I wouldn't recommend using an awning. However, there is a good option for most applications and that is a retractable porch awning.

Retractable awnings should be closed during windy periods. Better yet, you can purchase a device for automatic retractable awnings that measures the wind and will close your awning if it detects winds over a certain speed.

Fabric Color

Contrary to what you might expect, Sunbrella fabric is not dyed like other fabrics. Instead, UV resistant color pigments are combined with Sunbrella fibers in liquid. The fibers are blended into yarn and woven into the material you see. This process ensures the color is contained throughout the entire fabric.

Care and Cleaning of Sunbrella Awnings

Clean Sunbrella fabrics periodically to remove dirt, particles from your roof, pollen, and other substances. You can clean the awning in place. Most often all you'll need to do is use a mild soap, lukewarm water (not hot), and a soft brush. Rinse very well and allow to air dry.
