Wreath Ideas for Christmas

For a Beautiful Front Porch

Mary and I enjoy looking at beautiful wreath ideas for Christmas. Nothing says Christmas quite like wonderfully decorative front door wreaths on your front porch.

No matter where you live, Christmas wreaths always add to this festive holiday.

Whether you purchase a wreath or make one yourself (download our free wreath instructions below), placing a holiday wreath on your front porch will add instant charm and sparkle.

A Gorgeous Red Wreath

Beautiful Christmas wreath with red holiday ribbon

We visited Gatlinburg, TN and one of the shops had this simply gorgeous wreath on their front door. My goodness, what a welcoming, fabulous wreath.

Doesn't the red in the wreath just make the red brick "pop"?

Video: Making a Fresh Wreath

In this short video, see how to make a fresh Christmas wreath from evergreens native to your area. One of our favorite wreath ideas for Christmas as it is especially beautiful and you can make it yourself.

Starting with three different sized wreaths, look at the adorable snowman that Booturtle made for her door. It is delightful indeed! We are honored she shared her snowman Christmas wreath instructions with us!

The classic wreath at the top with the vintage ice skates was on the front door of our friend Deneen's shop, Dreaming in Color. The beautiful pastel wreath on the bottom was inside her shop.

Outside Christmas decor by Cottage at the Crossroads - vintage ice skate wreath

This is a another super cute ice skate wreath that Jane and Leo of Cottage at the Crossroads made for Christmas. Jane even painted a happy snowman on the skate.

Wreaths are versatile. They can be decorated to create a theme to complement your decor or be simply elegant with just a red bow. Attach lights or electric candles and embellishments for added Christmas charm.

We know you'll love getting some imaginative ideas for outdoor Christmas wreaths from our wreath gallery.

Wreath Ideas for Christmas: Include Natural Materials

One of our favorite wreath ideas for Christmas is using natural materials in your arrangements.

What better place to get ideas than from the Williamsburg holiday wreath collection complements of Tobyotter.

Here's a nifty idea
How about using some of your Christmas cards to decorate a wreath as in Anne's photo above. Combine the cards with festive holiday ribbons and other decorative items.

To protect the wreath on the front porch we recommend spraying the cards with clear drying glue (you can then add glitter too).

hand-made wreath

Love the combination of different types of berries to create a most colorful Christmas wreath.

If you are fond of natural wreaths, be on the look out in the fall for autumn berries in your local area. Many will last till the Christmas season.

home-made wreath

Fruit! Perfect for holiday time and for adorning a Christmas wreath. Purchase faux fruit to last much longer than fresh.

Boughs of evergreens are always popular. Add pine cones and other ornaments for color.

Color Coordinated Wreath Idea

Here's a neat way to color coordinate an easy to make wreath. You'll need pine cones, a grape vine wreath base (other materials work just as well), a hot glue gun, glue, small brush, spray paint, glitter, ribbon (optional).

Begin by hot gluing the pine cones to the wreath base. Once dried, select a paint color of your choosing. This is a great way to coordinate the color of the wreath with that of your other porch decor or colors. Spray paint the entire wreath and let dry.

Once dry, lightly brush glue over the pine cones and then sprinkle the glitter over the wreath.

Tie a large ribbon on your wreath or add other embellishments as you wish.

For the Birds

If you like to feed the birds as we do, here's a variation on the wreath making idea above.

Make the pine cone wreath but instead of painting it, cover it with bird seed suet mixture.

I use the packaged suet available at most department or home improvement stores. Take one package and melt it over the stove in a small sauce pan. Please take care not to burn it - or yourself.

Let it cool just a bit and before it solidifies, pour it over the pine cone wreath. Hang it from your porch eaves or a nearby tree. The birds will love it; ours sure do.

We hope you enjoyed these wreath ideas for Christmas; see more ideas below.
