Front Porch Appeal: Do You See These Small Signs of Spring?
March 05, 2026

Not quite spring yet...but the porch is getting ready!

March...one day it feels like winter is holding on.

The next, the light shifts just enough that you notice it.

The air smells different.

The birds sound louder. And suddenly your porch feels like it needs a little sprucing.

The good news? You don’t need a big porch makeover in March.

You just need a reset.

🌷 A Quick March Porch Reset

Before you start ordering new furniture or dragging everything out of storage, try this:

- Shake out or replace the doormat

- Wipe down the front door and railings (winter leaves a film)

- Sweep the leaves and dirt from the porch floor

- Swap winter pillow covers for something lighter

- Add one pot of pansies or violas

- Hang a simple spring wreath

That’s it. You have a refreshed March porch.

It’s amazing what one living plant and a clean door can do.

March is about small signals — not big statements.

Not quite spring yet, but getting ready for it.

The Porch After a March Rain

There’s a moment — usually just after a storm passes — when the porch feels different.

The boards darken slightly. The air feels clean. Drips fall from the roofline in a steady rhythm.

It might even be the first time of year when we linger outside instead of rushing back in.

You don’t need cushions out yet or everything styled.

March isn’t summer, nor is it quite spring either.

It’s the in-between — and porches were made for in-between seasons.

The Spring “In-and-Out” Door Problem

March also brings something else: movement.

Dogs (and cats) in and out. Back and forth. Back and forth.

On busy days, it can feel like the porch door (and you) never get a break.

What we’re seeing now is homeowners quietly rethinking that daily friction.

Instead of accepting it as “just part of having pets,” they’re making a small design choice that help porches work better for everyone.

The solution. Install a pet screen door to create an easier, more natural flow between porch, yard, and home while simultaneously alleviating your gate keeping duties.

It’s not about a dramatic renovation. It’s about solving one small, repeated annoyance that adds up over time.

Our friends at PCA Products have a precision manufactured pet screen door for dogs and cats of all sizes.

Designed for easy access and security, their doors deserve a look and may be just what you need.

When Someone Comes to Mind

Sometimes the quiet moments on a porch are when we find ourselves thinking about people we care about.

The Remembered Collection includes five printable cards for those moments for when someone comes to mind and you simply want them to know they are remembered.

Simply print at home, fold, and keep a few on hand.

You can find these tri-fold cards in my MarySparkleSilver Etsy shop.

The best part? You can print as many as you like, so you can spread the love as much as you want.

I really appreciate you stopping by.

Have You Listened to Tracing the Path?

If you love learning weird, wonderful, “wait, what?!” connections in history, you’ll love Tracing The Path by historian Dan R. Morris. It takes big 20th-century moments and shows how they’re all surprisingly linked — and it’s genuinely fun to listen to.

Dan's most recent podcast is titled Who is the Real Life Forrest Gump?!

Before there was a movie, there was a man who lived it. We all know the story of the accidental hero who wandered through history, rubbing elbows with presidents and changing the world by mistake. But what if that story wasn't fiction?

When Dave and I listen to Dan's podcasts, we find ourselves saying, "I never knew that!" These stories are mesmerizing.

Looking Ahead:
Brightening the Porch for Spring

March is often a month of small beginnings.

The mornings can still be cool, and the plants are just beginning to appear.

But somewhere along the way, you start thinking about what the porch will look like when spring truly settles in.

That’s part of the fun of this time of year — imagining the changes to come.

One of our favorite ways to welcome spring is with simple touches of color.

A couple of years ago, we’ve added pillows and wall art with painted tulips. Such an easy way to bring a boost of color to your porch.

A bit of color, a few flowers, and the porch begins to feel lighter. For now, though, March gives us something just as nice — the chance to look ahead and begin. 🌿🌿
