Wonderful Backyard Gazebos

a collage of backyard gazebo ideas

A backyard gazebo can be a beautiful place for a personal retreat, for family photos or for backyard curb appeal. A gazebo is a little "getaway" where you can take your glass of tea and a good book and head to the backyard for some leisurely quiet and calm.

The vinyl lattice privacy panels you see above on our porch provide filtered privacy, something we treasure on our porch. Dave created a video and documented an overview of how he made them for us.

In addition to the nice privacy, we love the look our back porch has gained from this wonderful black square vinyl lattice.

Spring Porch Decorating with Forsythias

Our springtime porch decorated with a forsythia theme

Last month we gave you a sneak peek at our spring porch. To be honest, it wasn't ready yet. We had just started.

Now we're happy to show you how we decorated with a theme of forsythias. It's my favorite spring porch so far.

Five Mother's Day Gift Ideas for You

Sunday, May 13th is Mom's Day. It's always nice to have a few gift ideas to celebrate the special moms in our lives.

#1: Would a Mom in Your Life Love This?

On the porch, in the back yard or side yard - wherever this glider goes, we bet a sweet mom would love the time she spends here. We love that this glider is said not to weather or crack as it's made from poly recycled lumber. And cup holders on each arm.

If you like this idea, here's our where you can purchase this glider. (Amazon affiliate link)

#2: These Are a Gift from the Heart

DIY painted rocks in the garden are a nice idea for someone you love
Easy DIY painted rocks make a sweet gift
Give the gift of your time and artistry by painting a few rocks for the flower garden. I painted these rocks with the craft paint we already had on hand. Dave put a coat of polyurethane on them to (hopefully) preserve them from the weather.

What can you paint on a rock? Anything - flowers, butterflies, lady bugs, polka dots, sunshine and clouds, really anything. Even a monogram or rainbow - or a quilt pattern or favorite food like strawberries. Maybe something that person really enjoys.

We haven't had these rocks in our garden long enough to know if the polyurethane will keep the paint from chipping. But they are sure to be a welome gift and could sit on your covered porch too.

#3: Picnics Are Always in Style

Growing up with our boys, our picnics were simple as we would usually combine them with a hike. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches - sometimes chicken salad - along with carrot sticks, graham crackers and grapes.

Your picnics are probably more sophisticated, but no matter what, a picnic is a loving way to spend time and make good memories.

#4: A Welcoming Gift to Keep Toddlers Happy

We hadn't seen a horse swing like this before, but isn't it fun? Knowing how much our young grandchildren loved the wooden rocking horse that Dave made for them, we know little ones would also love a swing like this.

And guess what - it can be used indoors or out.

#5: A Give That Transcends Time

1. Depending on the internet browser you are using, the actual document may not appear on your screen when you first open it up. We noticed that it doesn't show up in Firefox. Don't panic! Just save it to your computer and open the file - and it shall re-appear!

2. These are actual construction blue print plans. You will need to enlarge it on your screen to see the print or print this plan on either 18x24 or 24x36 (preferred) inch paper. I emailed the document to our local Staples store. It cost me $7.82 for printing all four pages on 18x24 inch paper.

To save a few dollars, view the plan online first to determine if you actually need the last two pages which are construction options you may not choose to do.

3. Feel free to send this to friends, etc., who you think may like a free shed plan - all compliments of Mary and I and Family Home Plans
