Spring has arrived… and the porch is beginning to settle in.

Hello, porch friend,

We hope spring is making its way to your doorstep.

April is here, and it feels a little more certain now.

The light lingers longer in the evening. The air is softer. The breeze isn’t quite so sharp.

And little by little, the porch begins to feel less like something you’re getting ready and more like a place you can simply enjoy.

We know, though, that for some of you, snow may still be on the ground—and spring can feel a bit far off.

But when you can, step outside for a moment and watch it all begin to unfold. 🌿

🌷 Step Outside for a Moment

If you step out onto your porch this time of year, you might notice things you missed just a few weeks ago.

A bit more green along the edges. A bird stopping by and staying a little longer. The way the light falls differently across the floorboards.

You don’t have to do anything.

Maybe you bring your coffee out. Maybe you water a plant. Or maybe you just stand there for a minute and take it in.

April isn’t asking for much.

Just a moment of noticing.

Sure Signs of Spring

Spring snuck in pink! Our dogwood says hello with a splash of cheerful petals.

Every April, seeing our dogwood bloom, it's like a blessing unfolding. It never disappoints.

Dave surprised me with this beautiful pot of spring blooms: hyacinths, tulips and white daffodils. Aren't they the most gorgeous you've ever seen? The colors are amazing.

And guess what? We've already planted these bulbs in our front garden. Each year in spring, we get a potted plant with spring bulbs and after they've bloomed and we've enjoyed them, we plant the bulbs in our garden, so they live on and on.

🌿 What Shows Up in April

April isn’t really about what we plan for. It's more about what shows up. Do you agree?

You step onto the porch, and something small is different than it was yesterday.

A bird you haven’t seen in a while. A bit more green along the edge of the yard. A breeze that feels easier to sit with.

You didn’t go looking for it.

It just… found its way in.

That’s how April works.

You don’t have to set anything up or get everything just right. You just have to be there long enough to notice.

Sometimes it’s only a minute.

Look at the Transformation

A few weeks ago, this is how our porch looked in early spring. The redbud was in full bloom—bright and beautiful against branches that were still mostly bare.

There were only the faintest hints of leaves beginning to show.

A few weeks later, everything has changed.

The trees have filled in with fresh green leaves, softening the whole view and bringing a fullness to the landscape.

It’s a beautiful shift… even as we quietly miss the redbud that came and went so quickly.

Framing the Porch, Naturally

This is a good time to start thinking about the space around your front porch.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. A few simple choices can make a noticeable difference. For example, adding a couple of pots near the steps, planting low-maintenance flowers, or defining a small garden bed along the front.

You might also think about how you walk up to your porch. A clear, simple path or a bit of edging can help everything feel more put together without much effort.

Even a few changes can make your porch feel more welcoming—and easier to enjoy day to day. 🌿

🌿 Windows Open Again

There’s a moment in April when the windows can be opened, not just for a few minutes, but long enough that the house begins to feel different.

You hear things you hadn’t noticed in months as a fresh breeze moves through. The inside and outside don’t feel quite so separate.

It’s a small shift… but it changes everything.

A Small Way to Reach Out

Sometimes we think about someone and mean to reach out… but the moment passes. Maybe we don't have the words for what we want to say.

I’ve been making a small collection of printable cards for those moments: simple words, a quiet front, and space inside to write what you want to say.

They’re part of what I’m calling the Remembered Collection. Cards for encouragement, for thinking of you, or just for letting someone know they’re on your mind.
