Welcome to Front Porch Appeal!
Hello, porch friends.
August is here, and our grandkids in Tennessee already returned to school on August 1st. But, my oh my, it's still very much summer here with the heat and humidity.
August is hot for many of us, but our porches are still our friends! Perhaps your porch is glowing with golden sunsets and late-blooming flowers. Or maybe it's just too warm to enjoy it for now, but we hope you can.
However you use your porch this month, may it bring a little peace, a little wonder, and a whole lot of everyday joy.
Savoring Summer's End on the Porch

Here we are, the time of year when the last breath of summer lingers. The days may still be warm (or even hot), but the evenings begin to whisper autumn.
This month invites us to slow down and savor what’s left of summer days.
Our porches are more than wood and nails — it’s where mornings start slow and summer evenings never feel rushed.
These are the moments we’ll miss when the air turns crisp. So let's enjoy today!
☕How to Savor the Season on the Porch

That porch swing! How nice it is.
This time of year is awesome to host a simple porch supper — fresh tomatoes, grilled corn, and peach cobbler. Doesn't that sound yummy?
Or how about watching a late-summer sunset with your favorite playlist.
Another neat idea - that I like - is to start a little wonders journal to jot down small things you appreciate.
🌱Little Wonders to Notice in August

This time of year, we notice the evenings getting a little shorter and the shadows growing longer.
Little things to notice: fireflies blinking in the dusk and that first red leaf tucked among the green.
The small things make a day feel special. Do you agree? Our porch is the best front-row seat for them all.
🌿☀️ Porch Wisdom

Dave and I think that this time of year is like that in-between time, with one foot still in summer and the other testing out fall.
Our porches remind us that the best conversations don’t need a clock.
🐦 Porch Parade on Main Street

Q: What makes Main Street USA even more inviting?
A: When the merchants offer a welcoming “porch.”
Picture this: you’ve been browsing shops, your arms full of treasures, feet aching, and you’re craving something cold to drink.
Wouldn’t a charming little “porch” like this be the perfect spot to pause and recharge?
These photos, shared by our friend Marlene over ten years ago, are from Brigham City, Utah — and they still make us smile.

Chairs, tables, and a front-row seat to small-town life. Who could say no?
So, pull up a chair, set down your bags, and let Main Street roll by.
These little seating spots outside the shops aren’t just decoration — they’re an invitation to slow down, sip something cold, and watch the world go by.
Hope you enjoyed this "porch tour" of several downtown porches in Brigham City.
🪶 Something New Is Almost Here

Porch friends, I know this note is landing in your inbox a little later than usual — but for a good reason! I’ve been busy putting the finishing touches on my next children’s book in the Molly Jo Daisy series.
I can’t wait for kids to dive into it. It’s not quite “live” yet, but it’s so close.
If you know an 8–11-year-old who loves a good mystery — with secret hiding spots, unexpected clues, and just a dash of summer magic —this might be their next favorite read.
I'll send you a link in the next newsletter!
