Landscaping with Rocks

A great way to jazz your porch landscaping

Have you ever considered landscaping with rocks? It's a fantastic way to add texture and beauty to your garden.

You need not spend a fortune on rocks either. Sometimes you can get free rocks although it may take some heavy lifting to get them.

A rock border is one of the easiest ways to jazz your front porch landscaping.

The rock border on Anna's garden ties her porch, home and garden together

These pictures are courtesy of our friend Anna from North Carolina. Anna is the author of the popular Southern blog, FlowerGardenGirl™. She is a true expert on southern landscaping and beautiful gardening ideas.

Notice how the stone color matches the porch post stain. Very pretty. We love how the rock adds character and charm to Anna's porch - as if she could increase the wonderful charm factor she already had!

The good news is that Anna's rocks were free! However, getting them was surely not easy.

Her husband hauled them off a mountainside. The rocks were embedded in the ground and had to be dug out, then put in a wheel barrow and pushed up a steep hill. One by one. Some of them weigh as much as 30 pounds a piece. So there is a real story in these gorgeous landscaping rocks.

A close-up view of the rock border. I love how the rocks echo the stone on Anna's craftsman-style home.

Anna decided not to continue the rock border on the other side of the sidewalk, so she balanced the two sides by stacking rocks around the planter. Pretty nifty, Anna. It looks great.

If you enjoy these pictures, we show you much more of Anna's craftsman-style porch.
