Kimberly's Car Porch is
Creativity at its Best

We are excited to introduce Kimberly and her car porch project to you. Kimberly and her husband live in Virginia. She is the author of the blog Bella Della Farm where she journals life in the country and her charming, vintage farmhouse.

Here Kimberly shares a wonderful story with us about how she turned her carport into her summer car porch! You'll love her porch decorating ideas and the delightful sitting area she created for her and her husband with wicker furniture, rugs, pillows and other accessories. Here is Kim's story:

Cozy wicker rocker

I’ve always dreamed of an old white house with a wraparound porch. My husband and I were truly blessed when we found our little white farmhouse two years ago.

It was built in the 1940s and its charm is endless to me. We have a lovely little front porch, but it is too small to accommodate the sort of lounging and gathering we long for.

So, what’s a girl to do?

Well, improvise of course.

The answer was right under my nose and I didn’t even know it. Actually it was right under and over my car...

Yes, the carport. We had an old carport, complete with a concrete floor and wooden posts and an old metal roof.

It happened after a family gathering. We moved my car and filled the old structure with lawn chairs and laughter all afternoon. It even rained that day, and not only were we protected but we were treated to the beautiful music that only raindrops and a metal roof can make.

Well, that’s the day that I had my little aha moment.

You know that moment when you start arranging and shopping and painting and all that sort of thing - all in your head?

The first purchase was a wicker set from Craig's List, picked up and delivered by my wonderful mom. The loveseat and rocker were only $30 and the most expensive purchase in putting all of it together.

Wouldn't you love to relax in this wicker rocker?

The little blue table was a mere dollar at a recent yard sale. I spruced it up with a little spray paint. Everything you see is thrifted or purchased at yard sales - the blankets, the pillows, everything.

What a bargain for $1 - and blue spray paint makes all the difference!

The little space changes constantly and is fun to move around. It’s even more fun to sit out there and enjoy an early Summer morning or watching the lightening bugs in the evening.

Looks like Kimberly's cat loves the car porch, too!

Each Spring the carport magically turns into what I affectionately call the car porch. At the first signs of warm weather I move the car out and start decorating.

While it doesn’t wrap around our little farmhouse, it is truly a dream come true.

We so much appreciate Kimberly sharing her story and wonderful photos with us for everyone to see. It's neat to think of ways we can have a porch - even when we don't have the porch of our dreams attached to our home. Please visit Kimberly's blog, Bella Della Farm, and you'll be able to get a glimpse into her charming country farm house!

I leave you with this thought...

What you make
With what you have
Makes all the difference
In the world.
