When thinking about your outdoor Christmas decorating ideas, begin with your front porch or front door.

Use it as the focal point for your decorations to create a special holiday theme - for example Santa's workshop, a winter wonderland, or the Nativity.

Outdoor Christmas decorations range from very simple to full-out elaborate. Dave and I prefer simple but we also appreciate the elaborate lights and decorations in our town.

Even if you don't live in the snow, isn't this a pretty picture of a snowy porch all decorated for Christmas? We like how the touch of bright red on the wreaths and bells really "pops" against the snowy white.

Teresa, author of Gardening with Soule shares a picture of her gorgeous red front door - all ready for the holidays. I think the red wreath against the red door is so very pretty - and trimmed with greenery and a vintage sled.

Beautiful Simplicity

This greek-gothic Victorian home was built circa 1860 and the current owner decorates it for Christmas every year. Decorated columns and windows adorned with holiday wreaths are all that is needed to create a most appealing Christmas porch! If you're like the two of us, you'd enjoy passing by this charming home more than once. Is this home enchanting or what? I'm imagining a grand piano inside, a roaring fireplace, cookies in the oven and spiced cider on the stove. It's certainly lovely and inviting!

A decorated front door is very captivating. You can use foil wrapping paper to cover it and tie it with an over sized large bow.

Metallic colors work best like gold, silver, or red and green. Another festive idea is to frame your door in lighted garland and embellish with colorful boxes like the photo shown here.

Add a beautiful wreath in complementary colors.

Tips for a front tree on your porch

Place a beautifully decorated tree on your porch.
Secure the tree to your porch so it does not fall.
String white lights on it and use spray snow on the tips of the branches.
Finish it off with large red bows.
For a sparkling effect use blinking lights.
Wrap boxes in colorful foil paper and place underneath.
To protect the wrapping paper from the weather spray the wrapped boxes with lacquer.

Create a natural garland on your porch

A fun family project is to create a natural garland across your porch railings.
Gather lots of pine cones. Use flocking (spray snow) to lightly dust the cones.
Use spray glue to lightly cover the cones and then add glitter (silver, red, and green).
Use yarn, ribbon, or string to tie the cones together.
Add bows or ornaments and drape across your porch railings.
