Beautiful St Augustine FL

Oldest City in the US and Incredibly Charming

Dave and I had the awesome opportunity to visit St. Augustine Fl recently and take a look at the porches we found in this beautiful historic town.

St. Augustine was founded in 1565, by Spanish Admiral Pedro Menendez de Aviles, the state's initial governor.

Aviles named the settlement San Agustin. The reason is rooted in the fact this he had first seen land in Florida just a few days before the feast day of St. Augustine.

According to Wikipedia, this southern city was the capital of Spanish Florida for over 200 years.

Amidst the beauty of its Spanish architecture, Dave and I, being the porch aficionados that we are, found much joy in walking up and down the neighborhood streets admiring their porches. And so, we are happy to share these pictures with you!

The tiles lend some much personality and interest to these porch steps.

And we also appreciate that this homeowner uses a middle handrail on his wide porch steps.

For wide steps, a middle handrail is both a safety benefit and delight to see. So helpful for neighbors and guests visiting.

For another example, please look at the middle handrail on this beautiful porch in Cape May.
